Workplace Violence Prevention – Protecting Your Most Important Asset

Workplace Violence Prevention

Protecting Your Most Important Asset in Business – Your Employees

As an employer you may be offering a competitive salary, insurance and a 401K program to get the best employees, but are you offering employees a safe work environment. The results of Workplace Violence cost businesses more than $36 billion in annual loss. Employee absences, downtime, and production losses are major factors in the loss of revenue for most companies.

The financial impact of Workplace Violence from lawsuits based on negligent hiring, retention, poor supervision and failure to mitigate workplace issues cost companies an average of $800,000.00 per case to almost $2 million in negligent lawsuits. The negligence derives from companies not developing and implementing Workplace Violence Mitigation and Investigation procedures. Most companies have a standard or generic policy addressing violence in the workplace. These policies are no more than a “Just Say No” concept, which does little to actually prevent acts of violence or address the problem once it has occurred.

Good Workplace Violence Prevention and Investigation procedures will establish training and information for employees, education and protocols for managers, supervisors, security and human resources personnel to follow in the event of an occurrence of Workplace Violence. Most Workplace Violence events do not end in a homicide, but 50% of these incidents where there was physical contact include simple assaults (not involving a weapon), aggravated assaults, robberies, thefts, rapes, sexual assaults, this does not include arguments, threats, harassment, bullying and intimidation.

A good pro-active Workplace Violence Mitigation program should include the following:

A company that protects their most important assets, the human asset, will foster a positive and safe work environment which will ultimately increase the focus of employee’s job performance and production.

Executive Protection is not always about protecting Executives.

Cameron Bucy

I often will be asked by friends or the curious general public, who or what kind of executives do I protect. Without breaking any confidentiality clauses I have signed to my client or principle, my answer surprises most people when I reply, housewife’s, small business owners, doctors, will executors, pastors, small children and yes I have secured several “Executives” or “VIP’s.

The second question (and sometimes rudely asked) from those curious is how much do I charge or make on a job. I always will answer this question because I have a few learned things in this business that you must be flexible, available, approachable and professional. I never know who my next principle or client will be; it could be the person asking these questions. I will usually take the time to explain about risk and threat assessments and how it is plays into the cost of the security and the different levels of high to low profile clients’ needs.

I know some Protection Specialist that has a “fixed” amount of what they will work for and no less. And if that works for them I say great. But for me and the part of the county I live (southeastern area of the United States) a good part of my work comes from persons making less than 6 figures, but these same clients are still more than willing to pay for my services when they receive a threat or by the situation they have found themselves in, often by no fault of their own, need or want my help.

Understand that by me having an adjustable rate does not degrade the professionalism of service or the industry, but rather provides a professional protective service to someone who needs my help. I found that sometimes my most high risk details are from persons who cannot afford to spend allot of money. I have never denied protection to a client (usually female) who is being truly stalked or harassed or hurt by someone based on the ability to meet my rate. This isn’t to say I take every bad break up or divorce case that comes along. I do my own investigation and make a determination on what the facts are and this is not case of a revolving door of bad relationship, good relationship depending on the day of the week and alcohol consumption or drug use.

I have worked details in rural parts of the state involving a farmer or local business owner and the following week I am in a Ritz Carlton or resort hotel with an “Executive”. Both needed and appreciated my services, both paid my adjusted rate. The biggest difference is with one I am staying in hotel and the other I am often home by the days or weeks end.

I have seen too many times where persons are in need of the services a Protection Specialist can offer, but often think they cannot afford it or don’t need it, and have been told by friends, co-worker or an attorney, “just call the police if something happens”, and then it is usually too late.

The Benefits and Advantages of Firearms Training

Firearms Training

Firearms Training

There are two approaches to firearms that are both mistakes. One is to buy a gun without knowing how to take care of it or use it. The second is to avoid firearms entirely, because of fear. Firearms training is a better approach.

These days, especially, everyone needs to know how to protect themselves. If you are an average adult, protection also includes your family, your home, and your property. While anyone can be victimized by a crime, you are less likely to be in this position if you have had firearms training.

Owning a gun will not automatically lead to peace of mind, confidence, and security – navigate here for security advice. A person who has not learned the proper skills may injure himself or someone else. The lack of knowledge about firearms safety can result in a tragedy.

Firearms skills and safety are best learned from a qualified instructor. You can learn all the facts about the firearms you own, the correct way to use it, and how to take appropriate safety measures.

You will also have the opportunity to practice. This will help you gain confidence in your abilities. If you have any questions, your instructor is the person to ask. As all firearms are not alike, practice will help you determine which one is best for you.

If you do not believe you need a gun, or that you do not need firearms training, think about yourself, your family, and your home. If you have never been a victim of a crime before, it does not mean it can never happen. The wisest course of action is to be prepared.

Whether you live in a high-crime area or an area that is relatively safe, you can decrease your risk of being victimized by choosing qualified firearms training.

Do not take chances with your life or your family’s lives. Do not allow your home to be an open invitation to criminals. Equally important, do not purchase the first gun you see and take it home before you learn how to use it.

When it comes to protection, it is not only your right. It is also your responsibility. Whether others are depending on you, or whether you only need to consider yourself, security can be part of your everyday life. You do not need to worry about someone breaking into your home, stealing from you, or attacking you. Firearms training can make a difference.

The knowledge you gain can mean the difference between life and death. Even if your life is not at stake, it can mean the difference between retaining what is rightfully yours and someone else taking it away. Every adult should learn about self-defense with firearms training.

Do not believe there is nothing you can do about crime. Sign up for a firearms training course. The quality of your life may depend on your ability to defend yourself. When you take your rights and your responsibilities seriously, you can live your life without fear. You will know you are safe.

Why Choose Security Companies In Huntsville AL

Security Companies In Huntsville ALNo matter the size of your business, it is never a bad idea to consider your options of security companies in Huntsville AL. While some businesses may think they are fine without security services, the truth is that all companies can benefit from additional security, for a wide variety of reasons.

Peace of Mind
To begin, one of the most obvious reasons for having a security company provide their services is that it can often help attain a sense of safety and a general peace of mind. This extends to all customers and employees, and not just the owner of the business. For businesses that are in particularly high risk sectors and locations, having the proper security applied in a hands on way allows employees to be more productive, without worrying about the possible security issues. Additionally, retaining a security company in particularly high risk businesses can help secure both employees and customers. When the people who form a part of your network understand that the business is one that concerns itself with safety and security, they will be all the more eager to interact with it.

Crime Prevention
Sometimes, just having the presence of a security guard around the building can be enough to be a powerful crime deterrent. People who would compromise the security of a business often target locations that do not have security staff present. By selecting a professional Huntsville security company, you will know that they will provide you with a trained professional who knows how to spot suspicious activity, reacting to security risks before the crime is even committed. The presence of a security professional is a larger deterrent than a video camera, and a better one, at that, for what you will pay. Many of these professionals know how to deal with crime when it happens, and will usually perform one of several tasks in order to make sure that the criminal is apprehended and that the crime itself is stopped.

Monitoring
In addition to providing trained personal and training for potential guard candidates, many security companies offer other types of services. It is important to consider the needs of your business while searching for the right company, as different services will be better suited towards different industries and sectors of operation. Certain security companies provide guards on active duty, personnel who monitor security cameras, and even specialists who utilize their knowledge of digital and internet based security features to keep your financial information safe online. Many more tasks may be considered as well, from escort details to speaking seminars. No matter what type of service you need, hiring a company that you can trust allows you to focus more time and energy on running the business itself, and less on worrying about the security details.

Take A Firearms Training Course And Learn How To Handle A Gun

Basic Firearms Training ProgramHow would you react if you saw someone you didn’t know walking into your garden shed? What if that person grabbed your daughter or wife and took them into the shed too? What would you do if someone tried to carjack you, to attack you or to beat you up? When someone asks us a question like this many of us don’t have an answer. We say that we would have to “live through the experience” to know how we would react. Well, if you want to survive then you need to be prepared. Take a firearms training course and prepare for every eventuality.

Self Defense Awareness

If you have “self defense awareness” this means that you have a plan of action if you need to defend yourself in an emergency. If you fail to implement a plan of action then you have failed. If someone acts violently towards you and you have no plan of action then you will be caught unawares. In short this could lead to your death. Put a plan of action into place and you will be ready if anything does happen. Colonel John Boyd (OODA) is an ace U.S. Fighter Pilot and he has worked out some useful steps.

OODA = Observe, Orient, Decide, Act.

SKILL, KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDE

When this has come up for discussion with the National Rifle Association people usually end up saying the same old thing. (www.nra.org 703-267-1500), we don’t know how we would react unless we were in that situation. We don’t have a personal defense and security plan. We would probably just freeze. If you want to survive then you must be fully prepared. That is why you should take a firearms training course. You must develop survival skills. You should learn how to protect yourself. Work on your attitude towards SELF DEFENSE AWARENESS.

So what does self defense awareness mean?

3. Use a concealed carry holster. Wear loose clothing to disguise the fact that you are carrying a gun. Make sure that your gun stays on your person.
